WINET (Women Information network) Nigeria Women Information network is a media focused independent non-governmental, non-profit making organization. We are inspired to uplift Nigerians, especially women and youths. This is done by consistently encouraging and empowering them, as far as possible to build their capacity for fruitful life in a democratic setting. WINET is gender sensitive and works towards dissemination of information to promote gender equality, human and political rights. We use media advocacy and campaigns for outreach.
MISSION STATEMENT
To uplift the quality of life of Nigerian women and youths and create awareness that will enable them to protect their rights in the society.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
- Inform, educate and create awareness on women's issues including modern gender rights.
- Increase the participation of women and youths in leadership programs in family, community and civil life.
- Give women and youths visibility and voice in the media through participatory activities and programs.
- Organize conferences, seminars, workshops and meetings on topical issues of concern to women and youths.
- Promote women's political rights agenda by lobbying for women's issues and legislative reforms, to eliminate institutional discrimination against women.
- Network with government, non-governmental organizations and civil society groups with the aim of promoting women's rights, information sharing and experience.
- Create awareness and publicize information on STDs / HIV / AIDS prevention, safe motherhood and reproductive health of women and youths.
- Engage in media campaigns and other such activities that are considered necessary for promoting the rights of women and youths.
- Engage in publication of outcomes of the network's activities and encourage publication.
- Provide Library services for research on women.
HOW WINET IS FUNDED
WINET is non-profit making, and so depends on foundations, donor agencies, grant making bodies, educational institutions, philanthropic individuals and organizations as well as governments for funds.
